Free and public activity.
The weekend of September 13 and 14 La Escocesa opens its doors to show the workshops and creative processes of the residents of the center.
Apart from the guided tours there will be several activities that propose a tour of the different themes worked throughout this year at the center such as: the exploration of natural dyes, rethinking the use of water in our environment and the creation of an urban garden.
We will also have available the publications of Ediciones La Escocesa, a space for children and families and, as a novelty, a space designed for people with diverse needs that aims to make more accessible the Open Workshops and their journey through the different spaces.
Stay tuned because in early September we will present the full program. Do not miss it!

Saturday, 13th | 11:30h tp 12:30h
Location: El Huerto (Nau Foseco)
Mientras se crece. Ritual de apertura del huerto de La Escocesa
We propose an opening ritual to activate the garden space together and begin to learn about the interconnections that can be created from this space. We accompany the gathering with a gardener's breakfast (with food from other friendly gardens).
For several months now, a group of residents and members of La Escocesa have been building and tending to a fledgling garden. During the Open Workshops, we will open it up to collectively reflect on thoughts, dreams, questions, concerns, and ideas about what it is and what it can become alongside a garden. It is an invitation to recognize who inhabits these spaces and how we can relate to them. We will have notebooks and sketchbooks to collect feelings and observations, and we will be accompanied by a bibliography to grow with the garden.
Saturday, 13th | 12.30h to 13h and 16.30 to 17h
Location: Espacio Principal (Nau Foseco)
Listening to contexts: Afro-Caribbean music
Through images and music, we will transport ourselves and share the contexts of creation of musical genres born in Caribbean territories. We will reflect and ask questions as a group. It is a practice to bring us closer to music, history, and situated experiences.
* The session will be recorded with the participants' permission for research purposes.
* Opening activity of one of the CREA La Escocesa 2025 grants.
Saturday, 13th | 17:00h to 18h
Location: Espai Niñes (Nau Foseco)
Flying creatures of light and color * Activity for children
In this workshop, together with Laia Lebrero, the person in charge of Espai Niñes, we will create flying animals with colored cellophane paper and play to see what happens when the sun shines through. Come and play with light, imagination, and creatures!
* This activity is for children aged 4 to 10. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Saturday, 13th | 18:00h to 20:30h
Location: Kitchen patio (Nau Johnston)
Estendre l’eixida
Dyeing workshop open to the public, in the inner courtyard of the Johnston warehouse, where we will dye everyday textiles using food scraps collected at La Escocesa, which will be left to dry in the courtyard. We propose opening up and sharing the process to create a space for encounter around the practice of natural dyeing and dye collection using plants and food, as well as the presence of fabric in our daily lives and the gestures that these encounters communicate.
Like “clothes hanging out to dry,” side by side and at different heights, a textile installation will be created with the colors obtained. The resulting fabrics will remain for use as tablecloths, rags, napkins, and other textile items at La Escocesa.
Sunday, 14th | 11h to 14h
Location: Kitchen patio (Nau Johnston)
Desde Aquí, Hacia Allá
Artist Pantea Armanfar will install a listening station at La Escocesa to explore live broadcasting as a way of connecting with places near and far. The station will mix two layers of sound in real time: On the one hand, it will collect live broadcasts from other territories, with sounds from different parts of the world. On the other hand, it will collect live sounds from La Escocesa and its surroundings, captured with a mobile streambox that will record everyday life in the space (and beyond): activities, cooking, the inauguration of the new garden.
The station is conceived as a space to invite the public to listen and also to participate in the collective mixing of sounds. An experimental space to listen to both humans and non-human beings and environments, live and in situ.
* Opening activity of one of the La Escocesa 2025 CREA Grants.
Sunday, 14th | 12:00h to 14:00h
Location: Espai Niñes (Nau Foseco)
Space for sharing stories * Activity for children
The artist Julia Gorostidi will install a series of small objects, drawings, and words that she has collected over time. Each one is linked to a story, a saying, a superstition, a folk remedy, or a legend. The idea is that each object will serve as a gateway to a story. The intention is to develop a system for exchanging stories that invites visitors to listen, tell, and leave a story in exchange for another.
* Activity for children and adults. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
* Opening activity for the La Escocesa 2025 Risography Grant.
Sunday, 14th | 13:00h to 14:00h
Location: Pecera (Nau Foseco)
Aiguaneix: preludio y una lluvia
Taking advantage of the circulation of members and local audiences during the Open Workshops, we propose Aiguaneix: prelude and a rain shower as the first activation of Aiguaneix, based on guided meditation and voice and breathing exercises to think of ourselves as bodies of water contained within the Escocesa community. This physical practice will serve as an introduction to the project, inviting interested members to participate in the collective process of conversation, brainstorming, and the possible ramifications and growth of the project during the fall.
Aiguaneix is the name being given to a fledgling and open project dedicated to thinking about ourselves in coexistence with the bodies of water that circulate in La Escocesa. As part of the Talles Oberts, we propose a small exhibition or display in the Pecera space, where we will display the first references and documentation of the research process from which Aiguaneix was born, in order to open it up to interested residents and collect collective experiences. The space will include maps, cartographies, articles, and images of old pipes, water pH measurements (puddles, taps, floors, or containers at La Escocesa), printed materials, and surveys open to the public. This display will serve both to publicly share the starting point of Aiguaneix and to invite the local public and members to contribute and collect information, questions, and wishes.
An area with low visual and auditory stimulation, with furniture for horizontal rest, dim lighting, steaming toys, and a sensory disconnection teepee.
At La Escocesa, in our desire to embrace and enjoy diverse realities and bodies—non-bipedal, non-normative, sick, or disabled—we propose to intervene in architectural barriers and other forms of ableist impediments for Open Workshops for people with disabilities.
As disabled people who inhabit and build this space, we encounter ableist reality on a daily basis, which systematically excludes us from public and private activities in the cultural and social sphere by failing to respond to our needs.
This proposal includes creating a horizontal space to be in the place in other ways, furniture with preferential use, audio descriptions that bring non-accessible spaces closer, guided tours for disabled people, and specific signage.
Where to find it?
Do you need a personal assistant to attend the Open Studios?
During the Open Studios, personal assistants will be available to help those who request it in advance (transcription service, assistance with moving around the space, accompanying participants to the bathroom, and assistance with eating).
You can also bring your own personal assistant from home. To do so, we offer a grant. To apply, please contact gerencia@laescocesa.org
What is a PA?
Personal assistance (PA) is a support service that enables people with functional diversity to perform everyday tasks that they cannot do on their own, with the aim of promoting their autonomy and social participation. The personal assistant works directly with the user, following their instructions and respecting their decisions.
This area is provided for families, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
This year the workshop will be open to artists: Ana Lucia García Hoefken, Anna Irina Russell, Antoni Hervàs, Arash Fayez, Bárbara S. Barroso, Consol Llupià, Florencia Toro N., Helena Civit, Hac Vinent, M0nster.L4B, Marta Velasco Velasco, Mariona Cañadas and Pedro Murúa, Natalia Castañeda, Paula García-Masedo, Paula Vicente Puiggròs, Rae Teitelbaum, Tau Luna Acosta and the residents of the research group: Andi Icaza-Largaespada, Caterina Miralles, Diana Rangel, Elena Maravillas, Felipe Rivas San Martín, Joana Capella Buendia, Julia Gorostidi, Mireia Molina Costa i Sonia Villar.
