We open a new film-club season at La Escocesa. The last Wednesday of every month between September and December we will screen independent short and long films curated by some of the members of our beloved community. After the screenings, La Escocesa invites you to a homemade dinner where we can get to know each other a little better.
The schedule will be published one week before each screening on our website and social networks, so stay tuned!
Descartes (2021)
Concha Barquero and Alejandro Alvarado
20 min
(Original version with English subtitles)
This short experimental documentary is about the censorship process of the 1980 film "Rocío", which through an ethnographic essay on the pilgrimage of El Rocío (Málaga) proposes a critical and secular approach to the Catholic church, the machismo and classism prevailing in the brotherhoods and their relationship with Franco's regime in Andalusia.
Rocío (1980)
Fernando Ruiz Vergara
80 min
(Original version with English subtitles)
We will screen the censored version, the only version that can be seen in Spain at present.
Refugi (2022)
Elena Maravillas
Spain, 29min
Video diary that shows the tensions between the desire to live in community and the inclemencies of job insecurity, through domestic audiovisual documents of a group of friends from different backgrounds living in Barcelona.
Aquí y allá (2021)
Melisa Liebenthal
Argentina-France-Germany. 22 min
Here and There is an essay that questions the meaning of home. The filmmaker uses photographs, maps and Google Earth snapshots to connect sites around the globe, not only from her past, but also from her family's complex migratory history, which stretches back to Hitler-era Germany and Mao's China. The real and the virtual are equally confusing - here or there? Perhaps both at the same time.
918 Gau (2021)
Arantza Santesteban
Spain, 65 min
Original version with Spanish subtitles
On October 4, 2007, Arantza Santesteban was arrested and taken to prison. From those days she still has a few memories: the endless laps around the yard, the swimming championships, Rasha's prison journey... After spending 918 nights in prison, Arantza was released. From that moment on, she records her memories and doubts on a tape recorder, which unfolds throughout the film in the form of a fragmented memory.
This activity is part of the Rebost programme. This new programmatic line is an opportunity for the whole community of La Escocesa to think and propose proposals and to carry them out within the creation factory. With a fixed budget, it is the artists themselves who decide what and how to spend the money in relation to the execution of the programme. The programme is seasonal and many of the activities will be open in the neighbourhood and will have an educational component.
Public activity. Free entrance.
