Carlos Vásquez Méndez is an artist and researcher. He has specialized in photography and cinema using an experimental and documentary approach and proposing links between artistic practice and social sciences. His works have been exhibited in several shows and festivals. In 2016 he received the Joris Ivens/Centre National des Artes Plastiques (France) award for his work Pewen [Araucaria]. BA in Filmmaking Degree (ECdCH/AHC University), MFA in Contemporary Artistic Creation (University of Barcelona) and MA in Creative Documentary Filmmaking (IDEC/Pompeu Fabra University), now he is writing a PhD thesis about the Documentary Turn in Contemporary Art through the concept of Dialectical Images with the support of CONICYT Fellowship. His topics of interests are the documentary discourses in contemporary art practices, the interpretation, and representation of reality in art, the boundaries between history and art, the film and photographic registration as an archive and documentary production. He is based in Barcelona and works constantly in Latinamerica.
