how we get to be left in peace

If we aren’t left in peace, if we’re pathologized, if we’re locked up, if we’re tied up, if we’re given drugs, if we’re made sick, if we’re psychiatrized...

If we aren’t left in peace, we’ll organize into Mad Prides internationally, fighting for our dissident ways of experiencing psychic distress and madness, building up our networks, shifting the paradigms of mental health, and fighting agains psychiatric violence and the biomedical model.

We weren’t left in peace, so we assembled between comrades from Barcelona, Bucharest, London, Madrid… at La Escocesa, where, in the company of a local rabbit, we were many Alices in Wonderland.

Together we found paths where to be left in peace, shouting out loud the herstories of Mad Prides internationally, making a movie to show psychiatric violence and our fight to end with it. A film where we’ll say no to being pathologized, nor psychiatrized. No psychiatric, no psychotherapeutic, and no artistic ward allowed.

What better way to be left in peace than partying, seeing friends, dancing, and sharing with you what we’re about to start?

The framework of this party and the collective Nebunchalá

This party is a public communication decided by the intimate, self-organized, and chosen-diverse assembly we hosted at La Escocesa in 2022, within the collaborative and experimental artistic research project “How do we get to be left in peace?”. We gathered between queer mad people to experiment with processes to make a film on Mad Prides internationally. We searched for processes, which aren’t normalising but transform the structures the cross, and which aren’t assimilationist but cooperative with radical activisms.

Having exchanged community knowledges between us, and created a common political and artistic ground, we decided to host this party and form Nebunchalá, which is a temporary collective which mission is to produce and distribute a film on Mad Prides internationally. Nebunchalá is the governing and administering body of the film project.

Past March, Nebunchalá recorded the podcast “Desequilibrio cuir” (Queer Imbalance) in Madrid, which you can listen to here.
