ana lucia García Hoefken (Lima, Perú. 1994) holds a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Lima and completed her artistic training at Central Saint Martins in London. Subsequently, she earned a Postgraduate degree in Contemporary Applied Arts from Escola Massana in Barcelona, Spain, where she also studied Sound Art and Experimental Video Creation.
In 2019, she founded the ceramic studio Retorno in Lima, dedicated to the research and creation of utilitarian and experimental ceramics. Her work proposes a critical reflection on the relationship between the human and the non-human, exploring the materiality of the earth and the invisible energies that traverse it, generating dialogues about the relationship between matter, memory, and the environment. She addresses these topics through various multidisciplinary scientific methodologies such as ecology, geology, chemistry, and physics. She investigates their properties and qualities to create new dialogues between units of matter, understand their relationship with the environment, and dismantle various imposed cultural representations.
Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums across Europe, Latin America, and North America, such as Galería Revolver in New York, the Design Museum of Barcelona, and the ICPNA Contemporary Art Award in Lima. Among her most notable solo exhibitions are "Why advocate for the vitality of matter?" at Espai Souvenir Center in Barcelona (2024) and "The Static in Motion" at Galería Revolver in Peru (2023). She has also participated in important art fairs such as Material Art Fair in Mexico (2024) and PaRC in Lima (2023).
Throughout her career, she has been selected for various artistic residencies, including the High House Residency in Norfolk, United Kingdom, and the residency at the Centro Internazionale di Scultura in Switzerland. She complements her artistic practice by collaborating on projects with communities in Peru, working to create links between ceramic traditions and contemporary life.
