In a context of escalating violence of genocide in Palestine, from La Escocesa we open a new space and time to meet and insist on the ¡Ceasefire now!
On Friday July 11 we will be visited by the Palestinian curator and researcher Manar Idrissi, current resident of the TEJA network, who will share part of her research on the systematic destruction of Palestinian cultural spaces and works of art by Israel. A process of historical erasure that, at the same time, opens the possibility of thinking about these attacks as scenarios from which to imagine new forms of resistance.
To end the meeting, we will enjoy a musical performance by Palestinian-Irish duo Rahim رحم, while there will be tasty snacks by Mohammad Alsharqawi. Because despite the destruction, Palestinian culture is still alive in music, art, poetry and community building.
From 18:00 h to 19:30h — Workshop with Manar Idrissi
Analyzing artworks lost during the genocide, Manar reveals how colonial violence targets culture, while Palestinian memory transforms fragments of loss into acts of rebellion. Her talk concludes with collaborative exercises in which these lost artworks are reimagined as living archives of resilience.
From 19:30 h to 20:30h — Musical set by Palestinian-Irish duo Rahim رحم and pica pica of Palestinian snacks by Mohammad Alsharqawi.
There will be rice, wheat and corn-based dishes, plus mutabal, hummus, muhammara, salad, bread with zaatar and olive oil, and walnut and pistachio baklawa.
Manar Idrissi is a cultural manager and curator based in Jerusalem, specializing in organizing exhibitions focusing on underrepresented communities and emerging artists. Her work combines art management with research on cultural genocide and the destruction of visual works, with the aim of rethinking the role of art in processes of memory, resistance and social transformation. He is currently in residence with Red Teja at Casa Velázquez, Planta Alta and Paisanaje.
Rahim رحم (Arabic for womb) is a Palestinian-Irish sacred sound duo: Palestinian singer Dalia Shabib and Irish experimental musician Clíona Ní Laoi. Merging heavy bass, distorted rhythms, and ritualistic textures with mawwal vocals; Rahim explores the feminine, the ancestral, and the decolonial. Rahim evokes the grief, resilience, and mysticism of lands scarred by occupation and exile. Both a cry and a chant, Rahim is a sonic rite of remembrance and resistance.
Mohammad Alsharqawi is a migration researcher, activist in the anti-racist movement in Barcelona. His contributions to writing and translation projects are numerous. He also played a key role in the production of a documentary film focusing on Barcelona's refugee plan. She lectures to schools, where she passionately promotes the fusion of art and education, especially through audiovisual media. Currently, in her master's research, she is delving into the intersection between migration and urban gastronomy, with a special interest in Barcelona's historic neighborhoods. She also explores collective work in the city's neighborhoods. He is part of the gastronomy guild at Las Mòniques 2024/2025, a project that delves into the everyday realities of migrant people's lives, challenging the prevailing culture through resilient ways of life, storytelling, art and community engagement. Yasmina's father.
During the event, funds will be raised to support the Palestinian people through the TEJA network, a cultural solidarity network that supports artists and cultural professionals in emergency situations and through which artistic residencies for people from Palestine are being funded.
