How do we connect internal and external spaces to embrace the despair that intertwines with the softness and power of life? The present calls us to decelerate and look for strategies through which we can re-inhabit our things, explore their wounds and embrace discomfort as a creative point. Change is perceived as such, as something soft: a moving viscera, a shared exhalation, a gesture that explores without knowing. What is the shape of my thoughts? What are the faces of my emotions? Through three encounters we will explore different territories of being cos, ranging from feeling and touching to the intensity of immobility.

session 1: Collective neuroexplorations
Wednesday, October 23rd from 5pm to 8pm
How does our body manage danger and safety? What is the role of our nervous system in our survival? What is the vagus nerve? In this first meeting we will explore the basis of the polyvagal theory through physiology and somatics. We will work with symbolic resources to build narratives around our body and its possible co-regulation strategies.
session 2: Respiratory ecologies
Friday, November 22nd from 5pm to 8pm
Is breathing a collective affair? How can our breathing patterns be related to the conditions of life under the regimes of capitalism? We will come together to explore respiratory ecosystems, slow down together and connect with the air that nourishes our tissues.
session 3: Geographies of discomfort
Thursday, January 23rd from 5pm to 8pm
What do discomfort and exhaustion have in common? What narratives and metaphors have been constructed around an impotent or non-productive body? In this session we will explore the ways in which exhaustion can modify our bodies and the subversive potential that is woven into it.

Somática Visceral is an independent research collective focused on the body and therapeutic pedagogies. It works at the intersection between critical thinking and craft practices.
