Sofía Romeo (Barcelona, 2000) holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia. She completed a Postgraduate program in Contemporary Applied Arts at the Massana School and a Master’s in Artistic Production and Research at the University of Barcelona, where she is currently developing her thesis, focused on the relationship between craftsmanship and contemporary art.

Her artistic practice explores the constant relationship we establish with the systems around us, such as technological devices, architectures, and materials, as well as with our own body. She is interested in observing how these systems, which in many ways resemble us, interact with our corporeality and influence the ways we inhabit and relate to our environment.

From a critical perspective, her work reflects on the progressive disconnection from manual processes and the lack of knowledge about the functioning and origins of the objects and systems that shape our daily lives.

She is particularly interested in the processes of pottery as a practice based on time, attention, and active listening to the material, where form emerges from the dialogue between the body, clay, and technique, rather than from the imposition of a predetermined shape.

Her work has been exhibited in spaces such as the Can Sisteré Contemporary Art Center, Halfhouse, and La Capella. She has completed residencies at Casa Aymat (Sant Cugat), the Catalonia Craft Center (Barcelona), and Espacio Vilaseco through the 12 miradas project (A Coruña), and has presented her work in venues including Lluerna, Fundació Miró, and L’Antic Teatre, in Barcelona.

Sofía Romero is a creative resident from 2026 to 2027.
