Develops her artistic work through sound, image, text and live arts. She studied Fine Arts and Cultural Studies between Utrecht and Madrid, and an MA in Art Praxis at the Dutch Art Institute. Her practice incorporates diverse methodologies that connect listening to observation and an action in a specific space, looking for ways of producing thought images. Her works take the form of sound walks, installation, collective encounters, listening sessions or performance.
Recently, Sofía has been a resident at BilbaoArte and at the Centro de Residencias Artísticas de Matadero Madrid and in the Artists In Residence programme at MACBA, CA2M and LCE in 2020. She has collaborated in projects at Addaya Centre d'Art Contemporani (Mallorca), Lugar a Dudas (Cali), Tbilisi Triennial and Kunstverein Munich. She has shared and shown her work at MNCARS (Madrid), Bulegoa (Bilbao), Can Felipa Arts Visuals, Kunstraum Bethanien (Berlin), El Chico (Madrid), CA2M, Hablar en Arte (Madrid), Hangar (Barcelona), La Escocesa (Barcelona), Bosque R.E.A.L., Ekkisens Art Space (Reykjavik), Laboral Centro de Arte (Gijón), Sala de Arte Joven (Madrid), W139 (Amsterdam), What Remains Gallery (Munich), Ron Mandos Galerie (Amsterdam), Kunstpodium T (Tilburg), and Teatro Pradillo (Madrid) among others.
She was awarded in Generation 2022, participating in the exhibition of the same name at La Casa Encendida (Madrid), and was also selected to exhibit at Can Felipa Arts Visuals (Barcelona) with a solo exhibition last autumn. She has also received creative grants from the Comunidad de Madrid, Generalitat de Catalunya, INJUVE, and won the Jan Zumbrink Prijs and the Piet Bakker Prijs in the Netherlands.
