print a comic strip!

risograph summer Workshop (afternoon sessions)

In this workshop, we’ll use the Risograph machine to create a three-color comic strip.

In the workshop, we’ll cover both the theory and practice of the technique; on one hand, we’ll discuss what the risograph machine is and how to use it, and on the other, we’ll put it into practice by designing and printing our own pieces. We’ll learn how to prepare the files by ink and everything else needed to use the risograph machine.

No prior knowledge of risography or design is required, as this is an introductory workshop. Although risography is an analog technique and designs can be created by hand, the files will need to be digitized and edited. For this reason, please bring your own laptop, make sure you have Photoshop installed, and have some prior experience with the program.

The course will be led by Marian Vélez, risography workshop instructor at La Escocesa.

program

Tuesday, July 14 from 16h to 19h

On the first day, we’ll learn what risography is and how the technique works. We’ll start preparing the comic and explore how to work with a three-color design.

Wednesday, July 15 from 16h to 19h

During the second session, we’ll cover how to prepare files for the risograph machine in Photoshop, and we’ll finish the designs. Once the files are ready, we’ll start printing.

Thursday, July 16 from 16h to 19h

In the final session, we will finish the printing and make the necessary adjustments.
