The Spiritist Front presents the Popular Spiritism Series – Fall 2026, a series of open gatherings that revive the memory of popular, feminist, and libertarian spiritism in Barcelona. Through conversations, tours, and gathering spaces, the series invites us to collectively reflect on the relationships between the invisible, memory, and forms of collective organization, but also to imagine what it might mean today to revive this interrupted political tradition.

The Spiritist Front was born out of the desire to recognize ourselves within a political lineage that is also our own. A history that was not only persecuted but also progressively erased by amnesia and relegated to the margins of narratives about popular and revolutionary movements. To recover it is to recognize ourselves as heirs to those spiritists who imagined other forms of emancipation, mutual support, and connection with the dead.

At a time when rootless forms of spirituality are proliferating—easily absorbed by extractivist and neoliberal logics—the Front champions another tradition: that of a popular form of spiritualism that understood spiritual life as a shared practice linked to social transformation. Reviving popular spiritualism today is not an exercise in nostalgia, but a way to challenge the ways in which life, death, and memory are still organized. Where capitalism and ecclesiastical tradition have commodified mourning and monopolized rituals, we reclaim the historical infrastructures of mutual support, cooperative approaches to death, and the possibility of relating to our dead without intermediaries. Organizing with them is also a way to resist the erasure of community from our lives.

It is, at the same time, a way to challenge historical amnesia, to incorporate our dead women—those who suffered reprisals, the disappeared, the murdered, and the forgotten—into our political genealogies, and to resume a conversation that should never have been interrupted.

The first session will serve to establish the Union of the Invisible, a permanent group within the Spiritist Front. Beginning with this meeting, the Union will meet periodically and act as the editorial board for the Front’s future publication, collectively gathering, processing, and editing the debates, correspondence, and materials that arise throughout the cycle to shape the publication.
