“During a year and a half in bed, while my body performed on its own: it burned and convulsed inside.
At the same time, several volcanoes erupted around the world.”
Consol Llupià
For another year, Homesession and La Escocesa collaborate together in the INVITED program, this time the artist in residence with a grant is Consol Llupià who will present her exhibition Preludi: Quan el cos performa sol.
Preludi is part of a previous artistic project: “Quan el teu cos performa sol” (When your body performs on its own). From her personal experience as a chronically ill person, the artist offers a critical reflection on the perception of sick bodies and their capacity to produce knowledge and meaning in the artistic and political spheres, as well as within the parameters of productivity and value established by capitalism. One of the fundamental axes of this research is the relationship between primitive lithic mythology and the cultural and symbolic construction of the sick body.
With Preludi, the artist activates this previous research in dialogue with an audiovisual piece, through which she recounts her life process from diagnosis to the physical and emotional construction of her self-identification as a chronically ill and disabled person. It also includes dialogue with her environment: narratives about landscape technology and myths, both primitive and popular, associated with endometriosis.
Consol Llupià Their practice brings the issue of contextual permeability to the forefront, placing artistic practice in dialogue with the experiences that unfold in their day-to-day life through direct and immediate relational networks: human, non-human, and more-than-human family, friends, their sick and disabled body, the space they inhabit, and connections with the extraordinary.
They usually work with formats such as performance, happening, video, and sound composition. However, they have recently started to flirt with the cyber world, digital arts, artificial intelligence, proto-free programming, and accumulation, among others.
INVITED is a curatorial program of exhibitions and events that began in 2010 and allows emerging visual artists from Barcelona to develop a new project in the Homesession space. So far, the unique proposals derived from this program have shown the breadth of possibilities that this format allows, with installations, performances, readings, video screenings, open research processes, and so on. The history of projects presented during the 10 years of INVITED can be checked here
