gelen jeleton

Gelen Jeleton (María Ángeles Alcántara Sánchez, Murcia, 1975) develops her artistic practice together with Jesusi as part of Equipo Jeleton since 1999, with long-term projects such as “Political History of Flowers”, focused on Flora’s language and its representations, where she critically and playfully reworks literary, musical, and visual repertoires with the intention of transforming poison into medicine. She studied Fine Arts in Cuenca and completed postgraduate studies in the Drawing Department of Fine Arts in Barcelona, specializing in Renaissance symbolism and alchemy. She brings this knowledge into her doctoral thesis, “An Archive of DIY (Do It Yourself): a feminist-queer fanzinotheque”, presented at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Murcia in 2016, a line of research she continues through exhibitions, publications, and workshops. She is currently working on the monograph.
