elena maravillas

elena maravillas is a multidisciplinary artist. She is interested in how we relate to and inhabit the world, in ecology, care and interspecies communication.

She approaches these questions through film, performance, literary criticism, textile art and the accompaniment of community processes. Her work has been shown at Alcances Documentary Film Festival (Cádiz), Centre d'arts Santa Mònica, La Escocesa creative factory or La Directa cultural magazine, and she has been resident at Francesca Bonnemaison Women's Culture Centre (2021-2022).

Her practice explores communication and the connections between the human and the more-than-human. She aims to open ways for understanding between subjects and communities, as well as to explore paths towards other modes of inhabiting the world. In this sense, filmmaking emerges as a tool that allows her to look at and from other locations, drawing on the tradition of ethnographic and documentary filmmaking. Understanding artistic practice from a relational and everyday perspective means understanding it in political terms. This relational and political approach implies questioning the subject constructed from a patriarchal, western and human paradigm, opening gaps to glimpse new codes from which to converse and affect each other.
