Workshop overflowing the archive. Technologies of accumulation as a methodology for artistic research is conceived as a horizontal laboratory of ideas through four nuclei. In MECHANISMS, participants will work on the relations, crossings and hybridisations of the different ways of accumulation, emphasising the aspects that affect artistic practice, understood as a research methodology. CASE STUDIES aims to create a living, collective corpus of artistic practices that work with these mechanisms, with a special emphasis on how accumulation generates narratives. In PROPOSALS, participants will have the space to carry out a personal project related to the previous cores, which will be reflected in a dissemination device, this PUBLICATION.
In recent years, both from theory and practice, both from the field of art and from other areas of knowledge, there have been many opportunities and contexts in which the archive has been tested as a methodology. This workshop is based on these theorisations and implementations, but aims to go beyond them by suggesting the term technologies of accumulation. Undoubtedly, mechanisms such as the list, the series, the collection, the glossary, the taxonomy, the database, the map and the atlas, among others, owe much of their capacities to the well-known paradigm of the archive (Guasch 2010). But they also have specific characteristics that differentiate them from each other and from other work and research methodologies.
