Sensitive resistances. Care for seeds, soil, plants and other people.

What do seeds tell us? How many types of tomatoes are there in your neighbourhood? Who likes (and dislikes) your potato? How to improve the immune system of the soil? What do nettles look for in your garden? How to prepare a first aid kit for your plants?

Perhaps never more than now have we needed to develop and implement strategies of collaborative resistance to the threats of hegemonic capitalist and extractivist policies.  Through care we will seek to improve the resilience of plants, of the earth and, indeed, of ourselves.

We will tune in, ferment, sow, try to understand other temporalities and other non-human cultures. Come and collaborate with us!

This workshop is for people interested in carefully growing their own food (or other plants), both experienced and inexperienced.

Researcher, eco-farmer. She investigates human and non-human interrelationships, searching for possible ways of interspecies communication through plurisensoriality and alternative epistemologies. Her field of interest embraces new post-anthropocentric utopias, ecofeminism, food sovereignty and justice, and new ways of creating collectivities, based on empathy, care and collaboration.

All sessions will be from 6pm to 8pm.

PROGRAMME

Session 1: Wednesday 8 June. THE INNER / the seed. In this first session we will talk about the seed: what tells us about its origin and behaviour, what care it requires at different stages of its development. We will think about the number of varieties of plants that surround us and create together the seed bank of La Escocesa. We will collectively think about possible resistance tactics for the patio.

Session 2: Wednesday 15th June. THE INVISIBLE / the land. During the second session we will try to get to know the earth better. We will look at the whole system - largely almost invisible to the human eye - of connections and interdependencies that make it up. We will look at commercial land and its composition, we will talk about its sustainability. We will look at examples of how to feed malnourished land, using natural, ecological and homemade methods. Finally, we will sow the seeds.

Session 3: Wednesday 22 June. OUTDOOR / the plant. We will dedicate the last session to the topic of the outside of the plant. We will talk about the affinities and antagonisms that are created between different plant families and according to this we will create the first associations in the pots of La Escocesa. We will look at the most common diseases and prepare a first aid kit for our crops. Finally, we will talk about the principles of permaculture and we will think about if and how we could apply them to our own crops.

REGISTRATION

Groups: a maximum of 10 people.

Each group can come to all three or just one session, depending on their interest.

This activity is part of the Rebost programme. This new programmatic line is an opportunity for the whole community of La Escocesa to think and propose proposals and to carry them out within the creation factory. With a fixed budget, it is the artists themselves who decide what and how to spend the money in relation to the execution of the programme. The programme is seasonal and many of the activities will be open in the neighbourhood and will have an educational component.
