For the first time Contranarrativas is in Barcelona presenting its transdisciplinary project Anticolonial Cartographies.
Fabián Villegas (Mexico) and Cindy Sissokho (França) will discuss their respective practices and share common reflections that question the efforts of anti-colonial aesthetics within curatorial and artistic practices, specifically within the field of visual culture and contemporary photography. One of the objectives of this talk is to activate a South to South dialogue that can reflect on the role that a Western-centric gaze has played in the construction of a colonial narrative of space, temporality, regimes of representation about the Global South, diasporic itineraries, migratory processes and racialised bodies. How can photography and visual cultures be a possibility for pedagogical and political encounters for radical imagination and metaphors of the future?
Contranarrativas is a horizontal and collaborative project of decentralised knowledge production, cultural management and free communication committed to the visibility, dissemination and production of racialised epistemologies, anti-colonial thought and peripheral aesthetics from the experience of the Global South and its diaspora.
In relation to this presentantion Fabián Villegas will also teach the seminar SOUTH-SOUTH. Anti-colonial aesthetics, historical memory, and new curatorial cartographies.
About Cindy Sissokho:
She is a curator, cultural producer, and writer with a specific interest in intellectual, political and artistic aspects of decoloniality within the arts, and culture. Her curatorial practice is nurtured by the urgency to broaden and disseminate epistemologies and cultural production from systemically racialized and marginalized perspectives, and from the Global South.
