85 books 78 films is the result of the research and artistic experimentation project La Escocesa 2021 "100/24. Non-creative explorations". The book gathers the results of two non-creative marathons ("Hyperpublication 100/24", in which 14 participants set out to write, design and publish 100 books in 24 hours; and "100 movies in 24 hours", in which we tried with films) and a series of interviews, conversations and reflections on creativity, value and copying.

The book is divided into 4 parts: an introductory text that gathers the results of the research; 84 cards of the 84 books created in the first meeting, in which the creators comment on the creative process; 78 cards with stills from the films and "director's comments"; and documentary photographs of the meetings.

"The question of why we wanted to make 100 books and not one (which also has something of a challenge and a game) seems very pertinent to me. Mainly in this project we were interested in breaking with the idea of being an author and above all with problematizing the symbolic weight of the printed word. In 24 hours, publishing 8 books is closer to not publishing than publishing only one. If we had made a book among all of us, that book would have hegemonic value, people could read it, value it, appraise it. The participants could feel that they have a published work. We destroy value by excess, we break authorship by surplus. Quantity over quality, that is the maxim. By producing so many works, you can't get too attached to any of them, and you don't have time to get too attached. You can't express your feelings with romantic force, there is no I because there must be 8 other I's in the next 19 hours. Books by the bucketload to break with the weight of the word, to overcome the fear of exposing yourself publicly, to create forms of creativity that are not susceptible to be valued with the hegemonic values of originality, innovation, hard work, perfection, classicism, honesty, honesty or authenticity."
