BARCELONA PRÓXIMAMENTE

Joana Capella Buendia

Archaeology as a practice creates a strange fissure in the linear conception of the temporality of events. It can happen that hypothetical archaeological remains appear in a material reality of the present, affecting the future of this place, at the same time as they rewrite its past. Could it happen that what has been found rewrites a history that we would not want to live?

The current dizzying transformation of Calle Pedro IV, where several luxury hotels and office blocks are planned, feeds fateful projections for the future of La Escocesa. What would happen if its ruins were discovered years after it had been buried by the urban development activity of 22@?

Joana Capella Buendia (Barcelona, 1990). Focuses mainly on the questions surrounding artistic production and its possibilities of existence. Through performance, action and material production, she explores her relationship with the artistic context and how her body relates to the other and performs it. She is currently a resident of La Escocesa, from where she deploys her practice between production and research. She has carried out projects within the framework of various institutions such as Idensitat, Centro Huarte, Sala de Arte Joven, La Panera, Estruch, La Escocesa, Casa Tres Patios, among others. He has also developed curatorial projects on the periphery of the institution, such as Fer foc Aprop. More info at: joanacapellabuendia.hotglue.me/
