La Escocesa is a factory recovered, reopened and put into operation by a group of artists who in the 90s decided to reinterpret the use of the factory and question its hierarchical and alienating principles. At the end of 2017, it began to relate itself as an open factory of analog creation, referring to the precarious imprint of its industrial space, which forces the relationship of those who inhabit it with obsolete architectures and technologies. The definition also places special emphasis on episodes of the last industrialization in our country when factories were retaken by their workers. La Escocesa is an expanded community of creators in an institution that owns them.
Through its residencies and its lines of research, open to the public in some of its activities, La Escocesa aims to contribute to the emergence of new alternative forms of experience based on artistic practice. These forms of experience are located in the context of the recovery of the factory itself as a common resource, taking up the cooperative strategies that were reproduced in different manufacturing facilities, including La Escocesa, in response to the crisis of industrial reconversion in the mid-1980s. 80.
The time of creation within La Escocesa advances against the mechanization of production: the clock, the chronometer, the metronome stop, and leave the organism in dialogue with matter and with its own times for non-timed creation. The creative actions that are carried out are a clear reflection of how the collective empowerment of the old factories on the part of the workers involves an immediacy of work with the work, which flows without external mechanized mediation. The experience of organic creativity, both individual and collective, is evident in an emancipatory, democratic and horizontal way.
La Escocesa has an internal assembly organization. This Assembly is made up of all the resident and user associates of the EMA Association, the managing body of the space. Doctor of Philosophy, independent curator and writer. He has been a professor at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Open University of Catalonia, UOC) and the promoter of institutinternet.org and Entero Forum. He has carried out cultural projects for institutions such as the CCCB, MACBA, Artes Santa Mònica and Alhóndiga Bilbao. A regular contributor to La Maleta de Portbou and El Periódico, he is the author of the books La cultura del ranking (Bellaterra, 2015), La gran adicción (Arpa, 2016) and El Dorado (Clave intelectual, 2017)
Pablo Santa Olalla
Degree in Fine Arts and Master of Advanced Studies in Art History. As a researcher, he is working on a doctoral thesis on artistic networks between Spain and Latin America within the Arte Globalization Interculturality Research Group and the Decentralized Modernity Research Project. He has been collaborating with the Muntadas Archive Association for four years.

Degree in Fine Arts and Master in Contemporary Philosophy. She has participated in artistic collectives and self-publishing projects, such as FLIA and with her own fanzine publishing house. She has also been a member of neighbourhood spaces such as the Impremta Col·lectiva de Can Batlló.
She has been organizing and administering companies and self-employed since 1993. She is an expert in administrative procedures with public entities and in the resolution of management problems, having been professionally involved in several companies and associations for more than fifteen years.
He has worked in assembly of stands for several international fairs, in assembly of scenographies by tours and several tasks of maintenance by theater companies and street art.
